There may finally be some good news for America’s small business owners.
Congress is currently considering legislation that would permanently eliminate the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements for domestic companies under the Corporate Transparency Act.
For many business owners, BOI reporting has become another government compliance requirement—one more form to file, one more deadline to track, and another potential penalty for missing it.
If this legislation passes, many domestic businesses would no longer be required to submit beneficial ownership reports to the federal government.
Why This Matters
Running a business is hard enough.
Between payroll, taxes, insurance, licensing, bookkeeping, and hiring employees, most owners already spend far too much time on paperwork instead of growing their business.
Eliminating unnecessary reporting requirements would reduce administrative burdens, lower compliance costs, and give business owners one less regulation to worry about.
What Is BOI Reporting?
The Corporate Transparency Act requires many businesses to report information about the individuals who own or control the company to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
Supporters believe the law helps combat financial crimes. Opponents argue it places an unnecessary burden on millions of legitimate small business owners who have done nothing wrong.
Congress is now considering exempting domestic companies from these reporting requirements.
How You Can Help
The National Small Business Association (NSBA) is encouraging business owners to contact their elected officials and support including this exemption in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
The process takes less than two minutes.
If you believe small businesses deserve fewer unnecessary regulations, take a moment to make your voice heard.
Every message counts. The more small business owners who participate, the greater the chance Congress will permanently eliminate this reporting requirement and reduce one more regulatory burden on entrepreneurs.
